THE BOUKMAN INSTITUTE

CRIMINAL JUSTICE

Arrests are commonplace in most of America’s urban minority areas. On any given day large segments of the black male population is in jail, prison, on probation or being sought on arrest warrants. African Americans are more likely to be victimized by crime than are other population groups. This creates a set of problems which impedes both individual and collective development. The Boukman Institute will explore the current data of African Americans in the criminal justice system, and examine the factors that have created this pandemic level of criminal justice involvement. The Boukman institute will provide a set of recommendations for public policy that would help to alleviate this catastrophe that currently prevails in the African American “community.”
